4 Ways You Can Redecorate Your Child’s Room This Winter

4 Ways You Can Redecorate Your Child's Room This Winter

With winter slowly approaching, something that a lot of us are not excited about is the cold weather. Cold weather means a lot of staying indoors, which can be nice, but not when you have children.

Children can get very frustrated when they are indoors for a long period of time and they can take this out on you. For this reason, I would recommend redecorating their room, as this will make them feel less upset about having to stay inside and they will spend more time in their room and away from you.

If you are not sure about decor options, here are 4 ways that you can decorate your child’s room this winter.

  • Egg Chairs

Even if you look back to your very own childhood, something that you will probably remember is just how cool everyone thought egg chairs with. It is hard to really understand why everyone thinks that they are so cool, they just are.

A way that you will definitely be able to impress your child is by buying them a stylish egg chair for their room. They will spend hours sitting in it and they will be over the moon with the purchase. If you get plastic or leather egg chairs they can get very cold in the winter, but these egg chair covers are just what you need for winter and they will ensure your child is warm when they relax on them.

  • Projector

Another way that you can impress your child without having to spend too much money is by buying them their very own projector screens for their bedrooms. You may be surprised to learn that projector screens are actually very cheap and you can buy them online for a very low price.

Once you put one up in your child’s room, they will be absolutely obsessed and they can use it to enjoy movies and games. Projectors are way cheaper than TVs and they are way more fun.

  • DIY

If your children are becoming bored with the cold weather, why not get them involved in creating some DIY decorations for their bedrooms? Children have a good idea of what they want their rooms to look like and so if you give them the chance to get a bit creative and design certain aspects of their own bedroom, they will be very excited.

You could make art to put on a wall or even make some decorative pillows together, the possibilities are really endless.

  • Make A Den

If your child is lucky enough to have a big room with a lot of space, why not make them a little den that they can hide away in? You can take some old blankets and some rope and make a pretty impressive setup. Every kid in the world loves a den and they will be incredibly excited if they see one in their room, they will also invite friends over to try it out with them and they can even add their own personal touch to the inside of it.

Why Having a Great Garden Can Benefit Your Children

Why Having a Great Garden Can Benefit Your Children

Now that summer is slowly approaching, something that we are all looking forward to is being able to spend a lot of time outside basking in the sun. For the majority of us, this is the first summer of normality that we have seen in the last 2 years.

Last year and the year before there were certain rules concerning being able to head outside, which meant that a lot of us were confined to our homes. If you are someone that has children, this may have been particularly difficult on you, as children can easily become bored and frustrated when they are unable to go outside.

If you were someone without a garden during this period of time, then you may have struggled even more with the rules put in place by the government. Though things are now starting to return to normality, covid has unfortunately not gone away. In fact, we are actually experiencing spikes and new variations of the virus all over the world, so as a parent you may be worried about allowing your children to play as freely with their friends as they once did.

Though you may not want your child heading out the same way as they used to, you still don’t want them to stay inside. Because of this, it is likely that you have moved to a house with a garden, but not just any old garden can keep your children entertained.

Instead of just leaving your child to play in a plain old garden, you should instead take the time to create a great garden that they can spend time in. Here are just some of the reasons why having a great garden can benefit your children.

They Will Be Proud of Their Home

As a parent, something that you are likely more than aware of is just how inconsiderate your children can be. Because they have put no work or effort into the home that they live in, it is not unusual for them to make a mess or destroy items within the home, as they don’t really care.

If you hire someone to do up your garden and allow your children to pay close attention to the process, then they will be much more appreciative of the process that made the garden look the way that it did.

Something that you should remember is that not every landscaping company that you hire will allow you to let your children observe their work, as they can be a distraction. Before you hire someone to landscape your garden, make sure that they are ok with your children looking at their work and explain the situation to them. I remember when I wanted to do up my very own garden, I contacted a landscaping company in Victoria BC, and told them that I would like my children to get involved with some of the odd jobs they were doing so that my children could appreciate the value of hard work. They were happy to allow that and even let my children help with mowing and other important tasks.

Birthday Parties

Something that you have probably experienced a lot this year is the constant cancellation of birthday parties. A big issue that a lot of venues had was that outbreaks of the virus meant that parties were not able to take place.

A lot of parents were also worried about sending their kids to parties and allowing them to potentially pick up covid. A lot of rules that are a product of covid make it so that you can no longer throw indoor parties for a number of reasons.

Depending on where you live, it can actually be very difficult to find an outdoor venue for you to be able to host a party and so most people just end up hosting a party at home in their gardens. This allows them to abide by covid rules, while also celebrating the life of their children.

If you are someone that has a run-down garden, then you may be too embarrassed to throw a party in your home. If your backyard is nothing more than empty grass and a shed, then it is not exactly the best venue to host a party and your children may be disappointed.

Not only should you focus on landscaping your garden, but you should also put some focus on getting some garden furniture and laying out a place where you can host events. Not only can you host parties for your children, but you can also create places where they are able to hang out with their friends and have a fun time.

You have to remember that this is just a one-time investment and once you have done it once, you don’t have to redo it anytime soon.

Get Them Out

The children of today are not the same as the children of the past. In the past, it would be impossible to keep your children indoors. However, in this day and age, it is now impossible to persuade your children to go outside.

Though you may not be able to get them to go out very far, by having a nice garden you will at least be able to convince them to sit outside and get some much-needed vitamin D. Childhood obesity is on the rise and by giving your child a place they can have fun and exercise, you will help fight these statistics.

How to Safley Introduce your Dogs to your New Children

It is important to any family that the relationship between your children and your pets is one of mutual respect and that the pair are able to be left alone together without the risk of something happening. Although you should be able to trust your dogs I would highly urge you to never leave your new children around your dogs unsupervised, especially during the early stages as you can never be certain what your dog is feeling and sometimes their animal instincts can take over.

With proper training, you should be able to have peace of mind that your dog would never hurt a member of your family, as long as you put the effort in to train your dog to know that your new children are not a threat to them everything should go pretty smoothly. I would recommend a few different methods in order to build a strong bond and relationship between your dogs and your new children that can hopefully go on as your children and your pets get older.

Creating a Comfortable Environment

When it comes to the initial meeting of your children and your dogs you should do everything in your power to make the meeting place a setting that makes both parties comfortable, for the dog you can make them feel at ease by conducting the meeting in familiar territory. Using rewards such as toys and treats and of course plenty of affection you should stay close to your dog when you present them to your child. Give your dogs a moment to investigate your new child and do plenty of sniffing, it is usually the case that your dogs will react pretty calmly but you should be very gentle with the situation in case your dogs react badly.

Creating a comfortable environment is one of the best ways that you can show your dog that everything is okay and that your new child should be considered a member of the family. If you need help or advice in regards to creating a relaxing setting in your home for both your dogs and children then  I would urge you to research online or speak to a professional for ideas that could really help make the situation easier.

Observation

As previously mentioned observation is key to making sure that everything runs smoothly in regards to your dog and your child’s first interaction. Although it would be ideal to presume that your dog is going to be fine you should remember that this is a new experience for your pet and no matter how calm they may seem there is still a risk that they will not be okay with your new family member straight away. Change can make your animal’s behavior also change so it is an important part of their training to be present during the initial interactions. If you are training a younger dog or puppy then it would be very useful to use a beginners guide to looking after your new puppy to make sure you are doing everything you can to build a good relationship between your child and dog.

How to Keep Your Puppy Calm

Keeping a puppy calm is easier said than done sometimes, as they are younger and more excitable it is important that you are serious about their training. Using rewards when your puppy interacts in a  calm way you can help to encourage them to be calm if they are going to be rewarded with treats and affection. With younger animals, they find it harder to understand what is going on so you need to be doing everything you can to let them know how they should behave around, small children.

Regular Interactions

One of the best ways to introduce your new children to your dogs is to make sure they have regular interactions and the opportunity to build a relationship together that is positive. Over time you will see that your dog is actually very wary of your children in a way that they would protect them if anything were to happen. A strong relationship like this is a great step in the direction of your dogs and children growing up very happy together.

Everything You Need to Consider as a New Parent

Finding out that you are going to be a new parent is both exciting and daunting, the idea that you will be responsible for the life of a child can be very stressful for some people but you should know that most prospective parents feel this way too. There are a lot of things to consider in the run-up to your child’s birth so it is vital that you are proficient in making sure the necessary preparations are made in time.

Preparation

In order to be truly prepared for your child’s arrival, you should research everything that you will need or even ask any of your family and friends who have been through this before for advice. You should make a list of the things that you need to buy and if you are having a baby shower you could put together a list for your guest to buy you gifts that you actually need to save yourself some money as well as providing your family with gift ideas that you will actually make use of.

Plans For The Future

It may seem a little morbid to be thinking about these things but when you have a child it is your responsibility as a parent to make sure that they are set up with everything they need in their lives. This includes making preparations for your death and looking into processes such as setting up a will detailing what should be done with your money and possessions in the event of your death. As a parent you have to think about these things as dying without a will can cause unnecessary stress to your loved ones when it comes to deciding who gets what.

Online Help

If you are struggling with getting ready for the birth of your child then I would urge you to make use of the various online forums that are available to help new parents. Forums created by experienced parents have been circulating the internet for many years now but it seems that this useful resource is often overlooked within the parenting world when the information is actually very detailed and trustworthy as much of it comes from people who have gone through being a parent. Using forums also opens up communication between fellow parents which is a very useful tool to have accessible even after your child has been born.

Making Sure You Have Everything You Need

With being a new parent comes a long list of essential equipment that you will need to buy before your child is born, there are many books and online resources available telling you everything you need so it would be a mistake to not make use of this. If you are worried about the costs then why not look into what second-hand baby gear is available in your area and as previously mentioned it is common for new parents to compile a gift list for baby showers or christenings so that your guests are able to buy you something that you actually need whilst saving you some money.

The Best Kids Films that Encourage Kindness, Sharing and Positivity

As a parent, you dedicate lots of your time to teaching your kids the best morals and hope they pick them up and express these morals in their day to day lives. You probably try to be the best influence you possibly can on your kids so that they grow up to be good people and carry these morals with them into adulthood. This makes picking films for them to watch difficult, as after putting all this time and effort into helping your kids become the best version of themselves that they can be, you don’t want to allow them to watch any movies that will instill different morals into them.

Kindness can be learned by example so by being a good example and finding movies that emphasize kindness and positivity your kids will learn these quicker. Kindness, sharing, and positivity are all extremely important qualities in kids and in adults, they will help your child to be able to create and maintain friendships at school and this will follow on to adult relationships. These qualities will also help to teach your children to accept other people that are different as they encourage acceptance and tolerance which are also important qualities. We’ve found some of the best kids’ films that encourage kindness, sharing, and positivity so you can show your kids some great films.

Spirited Away

Spirited Away is a Studio Ghibli film, we found out from a quiz about Japanese animated films that this is the Studio Ghibli movie that most closely aligns with encouraging kindness, sharing, and positivity. The film is about the ten-year-old Chihiro when she and her parents stumble upon an abandoned amusement park her parents get turned into massive pigs and she is stuck. She meets Haku who explains to her that she has to work to free herself and her parents from the supernatural resort. This movie promotes many positive messages, it encourages people to always have time for others and to give them attention if they need it and to not hate those who hate you, but instead learn to love them regardless. These are very positive messages and teach kids how to be kind so it’s a great movie to show your child.

Kiki’s Delivery Service

Kiki’s Delivery Service is another Studio Ghibli movie that promotes good morals and encourages kindness. It’s a movie about a young witch named Kiki who leaves home to carry on her witch training. She leaves with just her flying broom and her cat, Jiji to make a new life in a different city. She starts a delivery service to improve her flying skills but unfortunately, she loses confidence in her own abilities and begins to lose her magic. The kindness of other people in the village help Kiki to regain her abilities, this is a great example for kids to encourage kindness within their behavior. It also promotes positivity as it teaches kids to have confidence in themselves the same way that Kiki found confidence in herself.

The Secret World of Arriety

The Secret World of Arriety is another Japanese animated film, this type of movie is one of the best to promote kindness in films to children. Arriety is a tiny teenager who lives in a suburban home without the homeowner knowing. She spends most of her time remaining hidden from those who live in the house but occasionally has to risk going above the floorboards to borrow sugar cubes. This leads to an unlikely friendship forming between Arriety and the 12-year-old Shawn who lives in the house.

This friendship is a strong one but it has the problem of it could lead the homeowners to find out that Arriety and her family are living there causing problems for her family. This film is one of the most wholesome Studio Ghibli films and the entire movie is focused on the message that you should always be kind to others. It promotes that you shouldn’t just be kind to people that you know but you should be kind to every person that you meet. This is a great message to promote to kids so we highly recommend this movie.

The New Parents Guide to Decorating Your Childs Bedroom

When it comes to starting the process of preparing for your first child, it is likely that your mind is going to be swarmed with plenty of things to think about, like clothes and all of the other things that you will need in order to properly care for your child. Some things can be quite daunting and you may put them off for as long as possible due to their difficulty, one of the key victims of procrastination neglect is decorating your child’s room. This can be a very daunting task and requires a lot of work, there is just a lot to think about like furniture, themes and general decor. Though the idea of having to decorate your child’s bedroom can be quite off-putting, it can also be quite an exciting and fulfilling activity. One of the ways you can keep the project exciting is by following a strict guide and getting things done bit by bit, here is the new parents guide to decorating your child’s bedroom.

Paint

Painting the room should be the first thing that you think about. Choosing a color can make it easier when addressing other areas of your decoration, as choosing a color will allow you to establish a theme. Establishing this theme will also make it easier to pick out furniture and another decor. Not only is painting important to starting your other decorating processes, but it is also important that you do it before you bring any other furniture into the room. Having to paint around large pieces of furniture can be extremely inconvenient and so it is easier to just get it done from the very start. If you are struggling to pick the right color for your room and you are finding it difficult to continue the rest of the decorating process, perhaps choose a classic color based on your baby’s gender.

Furniture

You also need to focus on choosing the best possible furniture options for your baby’s bedroom. Some of the main things that you need to focus on our storage solutions and also your babies crib. When you first have your child you are going to accumulate a lot of baby clothes due to how quickly they grow, and so it is important to make sure that you purchase a large chest of drawers. If you fail to do this then you will just have to be dealing with a build-up of clothes taking over your life, so it’s best just to secure storage options to start with. It is also important to make sure that you have a comfortable place for your baby to sleep. Within the first few months of their lives, it can be impossible to get babies to sleep at a reasonable time. Something that a lot of new parents neglect to consider is upgrading their baby’s mattress past the average mattress solution. Something that a lot of new parents are doing is purchasing bamboo mattresses for their babies. These are far comfier than the regular mattress that you would receive with a crib and thus will make it far easier for your child to fall asleep, they’re becoming extremely common and can be purchased at several sites, such as those reviewed at bedroompedia. So be sure to shop about and you will be able to find one that fits into your price range.

Personalize

It is not uncommon for parents to go for plain rooms, however, one of the best recommendations that we could give is to personalize the room and give it a theme. This can make the decoration process way funnier and also give it a clearer direction, as a theme will make it easier to pick out things such as decor and bedsheets.

Father & Son Activities: 8 Ways to Bond With Your Son

Raising boys can be difficult at the best of times. With generations constantly changing, it can be difficult to keep up with your son’s life as he enters a world you’re unfamiliar with. Whether we intend to or not, as your child develops, soon we’ll be the dinosaurs that need our kids to help with new and complicated tech. This is sadly just a fact of life and unfortunately can end up putting a strain on you and your son’s relationship. So, how can you make sure you maintain a healthy relationship with your son? Well, here’s a list of 8 activities perfect for father and son bonding.

Movies

The best way to bond is to find common ground with your son. Ask him about movies he likes and then maybe suggest watching some with him. It’ll reassure him that you’re interested in his life and it will also potentially help you learn things you may not have realised about your son’s personality. It may also be worth suggesting a father and son cinema trip to help you both get outside of the house. Who knows, it may end up becoming a regular thing.

Video Games

As long as you’re prepared for him to likely be far better than you, then another great way to bond with your son is by playing video games with him. Most boys nowadays spend a crazy amount of time on their consoles, what better opportunity to spend some quality time with him than by getting involved in one of his favourite hobbies. Find out his favourite games and if any of them happen to be multiplayer then you’re in luck. If you’ve never played a video game, it’s probably best to get some practice in before you suggest a game – it may end up frustrating for both of you if he has to spend his time trying to teach you how to play.

Fishing

A very popular father/son activity, but for good reason. It will remind him that you still have plenty of things to teach him. There’s still probably a lot more you can learn about fishing as well. Like, did you know you can get special fishing reels for catching bass? As long as you remain patient, fishing can be a calming activity for both of you and it’s always good for both of you to reconnect with nature. Don’t be afraid to get your feet wet and show your son there are more ways to enjoy yourself. Plus, actually catching something would be a bonus as well.

Cooking

Something we could all improve is our cooking skills. Try making some meals or even try your hand at baking with your son. It’s a great activity as there is room for error from both of you and requires you both to work as a team. Teaching him to cook will definitely benefit him in the future and you’ll also (after some trial and error) get some delicious meals out of it.

Sports

Whether watching or playing, there are so many different sports out there that there simply has to be one that you and your son can bond over. You could introduce him to your favourite sports team and take him to games as well as a treat. If you’re wanting to improve you and your son’s fitness then there are plenty of sports you can play in your backyard. Just be prepared to be a bit slower than you remember. Remember, you both have things to learn from each other.

DIY Projects

If you have some work to do around the house, then why not ask your son for some help? An extra hand will make sure you get those jobs done quicker. Anything from painting the walls or fixing up the car to building some furniture, there’s plenty of benefits for both of you by working together. Plus, by teaching him and letting him help, you’ll be giving him invaluable life skills as well. Boys always like to be right and can get frustrated when things don’t work out the way they intended. Be sure to keep your cool and reassure your son if he seems to be getting frustrated. Remind him that IKEA furniture is a challenge for everyone. There’s no harm in getting confused.

Ice Cream

If you’re looking for an activity that’s both sweet and simple (pun intended), then look no further. You don’t need to do anything fancy to bond with your son. Even just taking him to get some of his favourite ice-cream will help improve your relationship. It also works as a great reward after doing some of the other slightly more strenuous bonding activities from earlier like DIY or fishing. You never know, you might even find him feeling more comfortable with opening up to you.

Help them with homework

A bane of every kids’ existence, keeping on top of homework can be a difficult task. An excellent way to bond with your son is by helping him with more academic challenges like homework. Kids sometimes have trouble asking their teachers if they’re confused, so it could be beneficial for him to be able to ask you. Just make sure he doesn’t trick you into doing it for him. The most beneficial thing you can do is clear up his confusion so he can solve the problems for himself. This may require some refamiliarizing from you, but he’ll surely appreciate it.

5 Benefits of Getting A Private Tutor for Your Children

Is your child struggling at school? Or are they coming home with more questions than answers? Then it may be worth investing in a private tutor. Throughout the US, you will find tonnes of tutors that specialize in pretty much every subject you can think of. For example, if you’re in around NYC, this private tutor specializes in LSAT testing – not an easy feat. But what are some of the benefits of getting a private tutor for your child? Well, here are a few to help you make up your mind.

Give them an edge

Getting a place at college can be tough, especially if your child is aiming for a place at one of the Ivy League universities like Harvard, Yale or Stanford. Competition for these universities can be intense and a tutor could help give your child an invaluable advantage to ace their tests and get that place.

Deepen Their knowledge

With most schools, there are set texts taught to every student. A tutor, however, allows for an opportunity to deepen your child’s understanding of their chosen subject with a wider variety of examples and questions.

Personalized Learning

Schools normally offer one method of teaching but, with tutoring, there is an opportunity for a more personalized learning experience as the tutor will be able to tailor their lessons to your child’s learning style, allowing them to have a deeper grasp of the information.

Communication skills

For some children, it can be difficult to ask questions in class, however, with a tutor your child will be able to improve their communication skills and ask those otherwise unanswered questions that may have left them stumped.

Confidence

One of the greatest benefits your child will gain from having a tutor is confidence. They will be able to build on their knowledge and when the test comes around, they can be sure that they can answer any question that comes their way.

If you are a parent, then you will be more than aware of how difficult it is to keep them occupied when you are working on a project. Children are very inquisitive and they always like to know what you are doing and they often want to get involved.

You may think that there is no way that you could allow your child to get involved in a renovation, as it would only make more work and potentially be dangerous. You may be glad to know that this is not the case at all, you could actually find many safe ways to get your child involved with the renovation of your home, and here are just some of them.

Get Them Involved In The Clearing Process

When you are renovating a house, there tends to be a lot of mess that you may not have considered before. You may need to rip some things out and knock some things down, which will create a lot of mess that could take some time to sort out.

This takes up a lot of valuable time that could be used in a better way and this is where you get your children involved. Children love to feel as though they are helping and so they will be more than happy to lend a hand in the cleaning process. Just make sure they don’t carry or clean anything that could be dangerous.

You should make sure that they have the right attire when they are helping. When removing things from the room, they could drop something heavy on their feet, so make sure to get them some work boots. If you do not know where to get work boots, you will be glad to know that there is actually a work boots sale online right now at workbootsireland.ie, so you will be able to get them some cheap boots and keep them safe.

Painting

A fun and creative way that your child can get involved with the renovations is with painting. Children absolutely adore painting and if given the opportunity to help paint the walls, they will be incredibly excited to help out.

Painting is one of the easier parts of the renovation that you will be doing and this means that it would be hard for your child to mess it up. If they do make some mistakes, you can simply go over them with paint and it will look exactly like it was supposed to.

How to Teach Your Child to Be More Confident

How to Teach Your Child to Be More Confident

When you have a child there is so many things to think about. This child is solely your responsibility, they are completely dependent on you to look after them and to raise them right. You’re responsible for ensuring that they’re well fed, that they’re eating all the right foods to make sure they’re nourished properly, that they sleep enough, that they learn to walk around the write age, that they learn to talk around the right age, that they can read and write etc. There are so many basic things to think about and then on top of that you want to make sure that your child is happy and you want to make sure that they’re confident in themselves. There is a lot of pressure on parents to find the right balance between teaching their children how to behave and to have good morals, without damaging their self-confidence and their self-esteem. If you’re nervous about ensuring that your child is growing up confident so that they can do the things they want to do and form relationships with people as they grow up then we’ve found some great tips on how you can teach your child to be more confident.

What is confidence?

Confidence is the having faith in yourself and believing in yourself. Children are always being exposed to new situations and experiences and they have to have confidence to be able to handle them and grow as a person. When children start school they have to make new friends which can be nerve-wracking and they have to do things such as read out loud in front of the other children or raising their hands in class to ask a question, to be able to do these things they need to have self-confidence. Some children are naturally confident and don’t have to work on themselves to be confident but other children are shy and it is up to you to nurture them and help them to believe in themselves. Confidence is so important that some of the Best Quotes About Life are focused around it, reading some great quotes to your child is a great way to help them become more confident. Our personal favorite was said by Marcus Garvey – “With confidence, you have won before you’ve started”.

Appreciate your child’s effort

One way to help nurture your child’s self-confidence is to always celebrate your child when they try anything. It is important when you’re raising a child that you focus on the journey not the destination, it isn’t just about what they achieve but the life lessons they learn alone the way whilst they’re trying anything new. For example, if you child starts to participate in sport you shouldn’t put too much pressure on them to win as if they don’t this will have a negative impact on their confidence, even if they kick the ball off the field, you should congratulate them for trying and for carrying on, even though they made a mistake.

Give your child new challenges

Even as an adult, the best way to learn and to build confidence is to avoid staying in your comfort zones all the time and instead pushing these boundaries. This applies to your child too, if you want them to grow and learn then you’ll need to provide them with new challenges they can apply themselves to. If you start with small challenges then your child will be accomplishing things which will give them confidence in their own abilities. If you increase their responsibility they will be forced to problem solve and become more successful and confident. It is also important that you don’t fix all of your child’s problems for them, whilst they’re going to need your advice and parental wisdom but too much help will prevent them from developing their own skills.

Don’t criticize them

This is the most important thing. Feedback for a child is great to help them learn but never criticize your child as this will almost definitely cause them to feel bad about themselves. This will make them more shy and nervous and likely make them lose any confidence they’ve been building.
